GENETICS & REPRODUCTION

AI centres, embryo transfer operators and semen suppliers are the genetic origin of the livestock chain. Livestock OS provides a reference layer for genetic identity — supporting traceability from conception to the herd register.

Role in the Chain

Where the genetic record begins.

Breed performance, genetic selection, semen and embryo provenance — this data underpins the value of every animal in the system. Livestock OS does not replace studbook registries or genetic databases. It provides a structured reference layer that links genetic origin identifiers to herd records and movement documentation.

AI Centres
Artificial insemination centres that supply certified semen for farm use. Livestock OS can reference sire identifiers in herd records where genetic traceability is required by permit or breed protocol.
Embryo Transfer Operators
Licensed operators performing embryo transfer require documentation linking donor dam and sire to recipient animal. Livestock OS provides the structural layer for this linkage within the animal passport.
Semen Suppliers
Commercial and breed-specific semen suppliers operating under DAFF or breed society certification. Reference identifiers can be recorded in the Livestock OS animal record as a genetic provenance note — not as a live integration.
Current Status

What is available now.

V001 Live
Genetic Identifier Fields
Animal passport records support sire and dam reference fields. Populated manually during registration or batch creation. No live validation against external registries.
Planned
Studbook Cross-Reference
Automated cross-reference of animal identifiers against breed society studbooks. Requires formal data-sharing agreements with each relevant breed society.
Partnership Required
AI Centre Integration
Live integration with AI centre records for semen provenance tracking. Requires formal agreement and technical integration with each centre's management system.
