Value Chain
Stud Breeders &
Genetic Producers.
Stud breeders are the genetic foundation of the national herd. Every animal with verified identity, traceable parentage and compliant movement documentation adds value — to buyers, to breed societies, and to the chain as a whole.
Role in the Chain
Where stud breeders sit in the system.
Stud breeders produce the registered, pedigree-verified animals that move into commercial herds, auction rings, and export markets. The integrity of the genetic record — tag number, parentage, breed society registration, health history — begins at the stud farm. Livestock OS is designed to carry that record forward through every subsequent movement, sale, or ownership transfer.
Animal Identity
Each stud animal is registered with a tag number, species, breed, sex, date of birth, and farm of origin. This identity record travels with the animal through every movement in the chain.
Pedigree Recording
Sire and dam tags are recorded at registration, creating a pedigree link in the identity record. Full breed society studbook integration is in the development pathway — partner onboarding required.
Movement Compliance
Movement of stud animals requires the same veterinary and compliance documentation as commercial livestock. Livestock OS enforces the compliance chain before any batch can move.
Capabilities
What is live and what is planned.
Livestock OS V001 is operational for core farm-to-abattoir workflows. Stud-specific capabilities — breed society data exchange, performance recording, export certification pathways — are in the development and partner onboarding phase.
V001 Live
Animal Registration
Register stud animals with tag, breed, sex, DOB, sire, dam and farm of origin. Records are permanent and chain-linked.
V001 Live
Movement Documentation
Compliant movement batches with veterinary approval and destination confirmation. Applicable to all livestock including stud animals.
Partner Onboarding
Breed Society Integration
Data exchange with SAMGA, Bonsmara SA, Brangus SA and other societies requires formal data-sharing agreements. This is an active development pathway.
Planned
Performance Recording
Weight gain, EBVs, and performance data integration with breed society recording schemes. Planned for a future development phase.
Planned
Export Certification Pathway
Traceability documentation for export of live animals or genetics. Dependent on formal regulatory confirmation of applicable requirements.
Planned
HerdMASTER Import
Batch import from HerdMASTER 5 Stud Edition .dat files is in the V001 control layer as a pilot feature. Public stud portal planned.
Get Involved
Be part of the first traceable chain.
The pilot programme is open to registered stud operations. Every animal you register in Livestock OS contributes to a permanent, verifiable chain record that travels with that animal for life.
